Arts and Sciences

The child's creative expression is encouraged and a wide selection of materials for arts and crafts are freely available to be used at any time during the day. Basic techniques are shown and each child produces his or her own original work. Reproductions of well-known works of art decorate the room and stimulate the child's interest and appreciation. Music is also an integral feature of every day. Listening, singing, dancing and playing are all part of the child's experience. Good recordings familiarise children with instruments of the orchestra and traditional folk music of many cultures. When possible, musicians are invited to give live performances. Exciting, safe activities demonstrate fundamental laws of science and appeal to the child's sense of wonder. Rambles in all seasons and observations of growing things open up yet another path of discovery. Local wildlife is enjoyed in the same way and photographs, books and discussion stimulate exploration of the whole animal kingdom. Horizons are expanded to encompass the whole world as the physical features, peoples and customs of other lands are discovered through the use of attractive materials, projects and discussions.
